Vancouver Fishing Report for July 24th, 2011

We apologize for a lack of reports on our blog lately, we have been extremely busy on the water over the past few weeks.

Vancouver Sturgeon Fishing on the Fraser River has been steady over the past couple weeks. We have been averaging 5-10 sturgeon on each one of our charters. The fish have been mainly ranging in the 3-5 foot mark, with usually 1 over 6 feet on every outing. Our biggest fish this month came yesterday right near the end of the day, taping out at 8’7”. Sturgeon fishing should be expected to remain steady over the next few weeks as the water gradually begins to drop. The Fraser River is now open for the retention of Chinook salmon but due to the high water conditions and poor water clarity, we are not offering Guided trips focused on catching Chinook on the Fraser River.

The Vancouver saltwater salmon fishery has been fairly slow over the past few weeks. Although there are a few Chinook and Coho around Vancouver harbour, our main focus has been around the Gulf Islands. The Gulf Islands is a 10 hour charter and we have been averaging 4-6 legal size Chinook per trip with most being in the 13-17 pound range. The crab fishing has been fairly slow due to the commercial fishery as well.

The Upper Pitt River bull trout fishery has slowed down somewhat from late June and early July, but we are still seeing decent results.  4-7 Bull Trout per trip has been the average lately while fly fishing, spoon fishing will usually generate a bit greater success. On Friday we spoon fished for the last couple hours and caught a few nice bulls and also caught an incidental Chinook salmon which was around 20 pounds.

Stay tuned for more reports as we are on the water everyday this week!
