March 24th 2012 Fraser River Sturgeon Fishing Update

Fraser River Sturgeon

Fraser River Sturgeon

Fraser River Sturgeon fishing has picked up over the past 2 weeks, which is quite standard for this time of year. Our best day this year has been 42 fish to the boat which was on February 26th, although none of them were over 4.5 feet in length, it was still a very fun day and they fought great. We have been finding some bigger fish in the last 2 weeks with several fish over 5 feet and a few over 6! Sturgeon fishing is going to continue to get better throughout April and May.

The eulachons (bait fish) will be entering the river to spawn within a week and this triggers the first major feeding frenzy for sturgeon on the Fraser River.  The past 2 days have been some of the most enjoyable fishing of the year as we have gotten our first taste of sunny spring weather. Sunny skies, calm water, and great bc sturgeon fishing! We have caught over 10 sturgeon per boat, many in the 3-4 foot range, some over 5, and the fish in the picture is from a 7 footer we took to the beach yesterday. The good season has just begun!
