2017 Fishing Overview

2017 Vancouver Fishing Overview

Well we’re only about a month away to kicking off our spring Sturgeon fishery. As usual, fishing starts getting good in mid to late March and only continues to get better once April hits. April and May can have days with upwards of 20 hookups, with various sizes of Sturgeon. Fish between 6 and 7 feet in size are a common occurrence and with rising water temperatures they put up a great fight! With a large snowpack this year, our water heights and temperatures should be in the fish’s favour and make for a great fishing season! Fishing will be great right through until late November.

2017 is looking to be a good year for Salmon fishing around the Fraser Valley. Summer salmon returns appear to be average in regards to Chinook, so hopefully we will see an opening around the middle of July. As usually the sockeye return is tough to predict but so far the outlooks are looking promising that we may see an opening sometime in August. Our pink salmon run is strong as usually which will kick off in early September, which is usually about a 30 day fishery. These fish are plentiful and fun to catch on light spinning gear and fly rods, our September dates are already booking up fast so inquire sooner than later to reserve a prime date.

We will be on the water all year, so stay tuned for up to date fishing reports and pictures of all our recent catches, tight lines!

March 24th 2012 Fraser River Sturgeon Fishing Update

Fraser River Sturgeon

Fraser River Sturgeon

Fraser River Sturgeon fishing has picked up over the past 2 weeks, which is quite standard for this time of year. Our best day this year has been 42 fish to the boat which was on February 26th, although none of them were over 4.5 feet in length, it was still a very fun day and they fought great. We have been finding some bigger fish in the last 2 weeks with several fish over 5 feet and a few over 6! Sturgeon fishing is going to continue to get better throughout April and May.

The eulachons (bait fish) will be entering the river to spawn within a week and this triggers the first major feeding frenzy for sturgeon on the Fraser River.  The past 2 days have been some of the most enjoyable fishing of the year as we have gotten our first taste of sunny spring weather. Sunny skies, calm water, and great bc sturgeon fishing! We have caught over 10 sturgeon per boat, many in the 3-4 foot range, some over 5, and the fish in the picture is from a 7 footer we took to the beach yesterday. The good season has just begun!

We support Fish for the Future 2011 and so should you.

Fish for the FutureSince 2003 group of dedicated volunteers have been putting on the annual Fish for the Future event. Their sole goal is to promote sport fishing and other outdoor activities to youth and families in British Columbia. Each year, they invite families across the Metro Vancouver Region to participate in their hands-on activities such as fishing for local fish species, fly casting, fly tying, fish & bugs identification.  This is a great family oriented event that teaches the importance of conservation and respect for the resource. We highly recommend bringing your kids down to meet the volunteers and take part in the activities. We wish the volunteers at Fish for the Future continued success.
